At Railway Children’s Day Nursery we offer Forest School sessions which are run by a qualified Level 3 Forest School teacher. We use our large spacious garden to carry out these sessions, they give the children the opportunity to use the natural outdoor environment, build on their confidence and self-esteem by letting them make their own decisions while be carefully supported to achieve what they set out to do. The sessions also support individual learning as well as opportunities for the children to encounter nature using all their senses and learn skills while handling tools safely under trained practitioners who are there to facilitate the children’s learning to ensure they are able to carry out risks safely.
Some of the activities we carry out within a session include walks up the local forest for the children to engage in child led activities, as well as using our own garden which is equipped to run these sessions. We use the garden to build camp fires, use tools and natural resources to encourage safe risk taking as well as the children creating their own personal pieces of work. Forest school is an holistic way of learning and we offer these sessions free of charge and plan in the moment for them.
